EBUS TBNA (Endo Bronchial Ultra Sound/ Bronchoscopic Ultra Sound Transbronchial Needle Aspiration)

Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) is a technique that uses ultrasound along with bronchoscope to visualize mediastinal lymph nodes and lung nodules. It is minimally invasive technology & highly effective procedure to sample mediastinal & hilar lymph nodes for diagnosing disease such as :

  • Tuberculosis.
  • Sarcoidosis.
  • Lung Cancer
  • Cancer metastasis to lung.
  • Staging of Lung Cancer.

Dr. Prashant Chhajed's Journey with EBUS TBNA.

Dr. Prashant Chhajed has been involved with the Development, Research & Clinical application of EBUS TBNA since the year 2002. Dr. Chhajed was involved in the initial Research & Development of EBUS TBNA during his stay at the department of thoracic surgery, University Hospital Chiba, Japan. The initial Research and Development work on EBUS TBNA was presented at various international conferences in 2003 & subsequently was published in the reputed international journals Oncology reports in 2004 Feb:11(2) : 293-296 & CHEST (official journal of the American college of chest physician) 2004 July :126(1) :122-128. Subsequently in 2004 Dr. Prashant Chhajed introduced EBUS TBNA at the Department of Respiratory Medicine, University Hospital Basel with the supervision of Professor Michel Tamm. Thereafter, Dr. Chhajed has been involved in the clinical practice & teaching of EBUS TBNA by the means of lectures, workshops & webinars all across globally including in the USA, EUROPE, ASIA, AUSTRALIA & all across INDIA.

In the year 2010, the Centre of Excellence for EBUS TBNA was established at the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. Since the year 2010, thousands of patients have benefited from the procedure of EBUS TBNA.
